Valley Arts District Organizations Plan Holiday Shopping Day

If you haven't been to the Valley Arts District yet, Saturday, December 2 is the perfect day to visit! Several of the arts organizations in the Valley have banded together to plan a Holiday Shopping Day, with special events and sales.

West Orange Arts Center has their annual Small Works Show, and also a Holiday Boutique with one-of-a-kind gift items created by local artists. This boutique is in addition to the Gift Shop which is open year round in the Arts Center.

Yema Gallery also has their Seasonal Art Show & Sale kicking off this same day, with local artists providing beautiful art and gifts.

ValleyArts continues their Artfull Series with the second annual Artfull Holiday Boutique. This extension of the artfullbean café boutique is filled with unique art, gifts, and products from local artists, makers, and entrepreneurs. Shoppers can receive a free small coffee with purchase all day.

From 2-5pm, ValleyArts artfullbean café hosts Viva Vinyl - a vinyl listening party - and happy hour with complimentary wine and beer. Community Spirit Returns to the Valley Arts District in September 2017

Community Spirit.jpg

It’s almost time for round two of this annual event celebrating the Valley Arts District! Live music, delicious food from neighborhood establishments, a wine bar, art, and both silent and live auctions come together for one amazing evening for both residents and visitors to the district.

Last year, local restaurants such as Hat City Kitchen, Libretti’s, and Southern Comfort Cafe provided food and bands played throughout the night, interspersed with presentations from movers and shakers in the community. This year’s event will have a similar format - but with some notable additions and surprises.

“Our inaugural event was a huge success,” says Candace Lee, Executive Director of ValleyArts, “with over 200 people attending we were able to raise some good seed money for projects to benefit and celebrate the neighborhood. We’re looking forward to another outstanding evening this year.”

Community Spirit raises money for projects in the Valley Arts District such as signage, gardens and plantings, art installations, and community events. As a result of last year’s event, the committee was able to design, order, and install 14 new identifying banners throughout district, plant flowers and install planters around the arts organizations, create Neighborhood Pride packets for new and existing residents, and begin work on two new signage projects - a large banner and an LED sign announcing events - both visible from the train.

This year’s event, which will take place in the courtyard of the ValleyArts Creative Cooperative building, will raise funds to continue efforts for gardens and plantings, identifying banners and signs, resident-created murals, and a wayfinding project.

Mark your calendar to attend the celebration on Friday, September 15, 2017. Tickets are available at Brown Paper Tickets. You can also support the event and the Valley Arts District through donations of goods and services and by spreading the word about this amazing evening.

Community Spirit is produced by the arts and community organizations of the Valley Arts District: ValleyArts, Arts Unbound, HANDS Inc., Arts in SOMa and the Valley, Garden State Kitchen, PWI Media, Hat City Kitchen, Luna Stage, and West Orange Arts Council. This year the committee welcomes The Rectangle Studio and Gallery.
